Field Marshal K M Cariappa College (FMKMCC), Madikeri hosted “Beyond Books: Skills for the Real World” a two-day workshop on Soft Skills for Capacity Building and Employability for students of various streams. The programme organised under the aegis of Joyce Literary Club was effectively coordinated by Dr. Nayana Kashyap, HOD and other faculty of the Department of English.
The workshop held on 17 & 18 April 2026 was supported by the Alumni Association of FMKMCC and conducted by Group for Institution Development (GRID), Mangalore. The participatory workshop based on experiential learning was designed and facilitated by Prof. Joselyn T Lobo (President GRID) and ably assisted by Bharath P, a MSW student of Roshni Nilaya.
The focus of the workshop was on the 21st Century Learning Skills; the Four C’s comprising Critical Thinking, Creativity, Communication and Collaboration. Other topics included self-awareness, facing interviews and goal setting. I have been a student of so many schools in so many cities, attended even more workshops but the way you interacted, maintained the crowd, taught us about the 4C’s, through fun and brainstorming games is something that I had never experienced previously. Your way of teaching included trying, then understanding and finally retaining it which doesn’t require mugging up, it just requires interacting and taking part. The energy that you both have is phenomenal. After your workshop I have gained more clarity as to “what next and how?
